Volunteer Akram (58) is making an artwork from waste plastic at our ship yard. With this, he wants to create awareness around the dangers of plastic.’
“I am a visual artist and I was a university teacher at an arts university in Syria. Making art is what I do, in art I can express my thoughts. Clean2Anywhere is therefore an ideal place for me. I meet likeminded people at the yard. People who want to protect our planet and create awareness. I hope I can contribute something to this with my art.
An important theme in my work is that man works towards his own destruction. Take a look at plastic. It is one of the most dangerous things that mankind produces and it invades plants, animals and humans. Nature is the cradle of all life on earth, so it needs our protection. I attempt to show that in my design, which I make from old plastic barrels and soda cans.
You can interpret this artwork on several levels, one of which is the following. The design depicts an eye. The inner ball (the iris) represents the earth and the rings around it form the eyelid. Clean2Anywhere is that eyelid: it protects the eye: the earth. By reusing plastic and making valuable things out of it, like boats, we are gradually working towards reducing the depletion of the earth.”
